Little Valentines

Typically, I’m not a Valentine’s Day kind-of-girl, but something about having little girls and celebrating “love” is very needed this year. With my mom’s diagnosis of breast cancer and recent double mastectomy, and my older and younger sister also testing positive for a genetic mutation that causes breast cancer, everyday love is something I’m choosing to celebrate.

*Side Note: I love wine, hot tea, chocolate, and FLOWERS. I think I just wasn’t on board with a set arbitrary date. But why not set a date? And then make it a point in life to show the ones around you that you love them more often than not.

In addition to showering my littles with special gifts and cards and some one-on-one time, I received some beautiful PINK items in the mail!

I have been rug searching for over six months and it’s finally over! I love the farmhouse look, but I don’t necessarily want everything in my house to fit inside one box. I wanted something soft and with a touch of femininity. My husband had reservations about me wanting a pink rug. This rug has the perfect touch of pink, with blues, and yellows, grey, and hints of brown. It also has the floral pattern AND branches. Swoon. I originally fell in love with this Anthropologie rug, but not the price tag.

I also ordered these pillows from Etsy, and they arrived just in time for Valentine’s Day. Handmade and from the United Kingdom. Brilliant quality and colors. I will be ordering more shortly! I’ve already passed the site along to my mother-in-law, who is busy decorating their new lake house!

Lastly, my husband surprised me with a bouquet from The Bouq’s Co. While I love flowers from anywhere for the everyday (that I routinely buy for myself), it’s always nice to have flowers delivered. I especially love flora that is not the average bouquet.

Ballgowns & Blooms

Weekend of January 26, 2018

With dreary days brings cozy blankets, cuddles on the couch, lots of Disney movies, and a warm fire. Still moments with my babes that a few and far between in these years of constant movements. Our Saturday night was spent adorned with our best ball gowns, handmade accoutrements made by me to fan ourselves in between dances, and a banquet spread of grapes, yogurt, chips, and cheeses. Ambiance provided by Pandora and the fire place.

The added contrast of the outside on our inside. Fridays buds of roses, tulips, and orchids bloomed their way through the weekend. The simplest flowers sprinkled throughout the home.

Weekend Recap

This was our first weekend at home in weeks. Oh, how it was needed. Piles of laundry have been washed, folded, put away. Groceries shopped for (and only 8 cents over budget!). Dishes washed. Floors mopped. Outdoor bushes and plants have been cut back to make way for springs new growth. 

My middle’s bedroom was rearranged for the third time in the year we’ve lived here. When we moved here, we had it in mind that she would share a room with the baby, but at that time they were both in cribs and I wasn’t ready to move the baby just yet (update: she’s still in our room). The second time we rearranged we moved the crib and made room for a bed as well, while she transitioned. Then after a few weeks we took her crib apart and put that one in storage. Now we rearranged the furniture again for better flow. I am constantly doing this in our house.

House to Home Part 3: Water Works!

Lastly, little, and with a whole bunch of cold water happenings, I got a new faucet for my kitchen sink. Yay! It’s so pretty and ridiculous springy. I’ve already accidentally let go of it before fully placing it back in the holder. It sprung up and hit me in my eye socket underneath my brow, pushed my contact back in my eye and left a nice little bruise. Does this shit happen to anyone else? But it’s like really pretty…

House to Home

Our first house was a love affair. I think I’ll always love it because we bought it ten days after I gave birth to our middle. I felt like we brought our baby home there. And we actually did bring baby 3 home to there. Being military we’ve always been in transition during delivery time, I feel like that’s pretty typical of military life. This house was already beautiful but we needed to make it us.  I had the kitchen cabinets painted. My husband put a subway tile backsplash in and cut and made a glass cabinet, my mom and I repainted SIX of the rooms, and my husband and his father built a screened-in porch the weekend I delivered number 3 (we might be a tad bit crazy). When it came time for us to sell and move (again), I did it with such bittersweet sadness. Our town was a picturesque Nicholas Sparks setting. The people in that town MADE. IT. WONDERFUL. They are all missed.

Our second house we decided to downsize. What the hell was I thinking? I guess I forgot that babies grow up or get bigger or that maybe I’d like to get away for a minute? Our home is by no means small but then again neither is a family of five with a golden. It is beautiful though. We’ve been here for a year and I’ve done zero inside renovations. I thought that the few days after Christmas and before my husband went back to work would be as good as time as ever to really make this house feel like home.
